Area Rep

I was born in DeWitt, Iowa where I participated in football, basketball and baseball at the high school

level. After a semester at Morningside College, I transferred to the University of Iowa where I played

club soccer until graduating in 1978. I continued to play club soccer in Dubuque until a career ending

lack of talent sent me to the golf course.

Professionally I worked as a teacher and coach in Lakota, Iowa (1), Cascade, Iowa (18) and Albia, Iowa

(16). I taught secondary English and coached football (29 years- 17 as head coach), basketball (assistant

coach 33 seasons), baseball (assistant coach 19 seasons) and soccer (head coach 17 seasons).

In 1982 I married my wife Sue and we had four children, three daughters and a son. Two of them are

married. Our oldest daughter is raising six of our grandchildren, and our third daughter is working as a

special education teacher with two children. Number two daughter is an elementary teacher and coach

and our son is in the business world.

In 1984 a fellow football coach and I started an FCA huddle in Cascade and when we moved to Albia we

continued to lead an FCA huddle for the high school. In 2013 after retiring from the classroom I joined

the FCA staff in Iowa and have served the Lord on the campuses in South Central Iowa by resourcing FCA

huddles, performing devotions for sports teams, leading two college campus huddles and conducting

Bible Studies for coaches.

My affiliation with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has edified my spiritual life and I have grown to

increasingly love and know Jesus. My goal and purpose now is to spread the gospel to athletes and

coaches alike.
