In 1971 I was introduced to FCA by my college baseball coach. Later that year I was able to attend my first FCA Camp in Estes Park, CO where I responded to the Gospel message and committed my life to Jesus Christ. Little did I realize that would launch a 50-year history (so far) with FCA as an athlete, coach/volunteer and eventually on staff in Iowa full-time. The people, places and programs I have been blessed to be a part of are way too numerous to count. It has been the privilege of a life-time to serve FCA in a Director position since 1985.
I would like to acknowledge the most important people who have been with me from the very beginning – Kathy and my girls (Sarah and Megan). Kathy and I celebrated 45 years of marriage this summer. She knew she was marrying a coach but didn’t have any idea we would end up in full-time, faith-funded ministry. She was a “rock” for the family when I was coaching and had to ramp it up even more when we started with FCA. I don’t know how this would have worked without her support. The girls have really known nothing else but that their dad and FCA were nearly one and the same. They each were involved with FCA especially attending sports camps. One of the things I am most proud of is that our youngest, Megan, is now serving on a Regional Board for FCA! Two of my five grandchildren have been campers and there are more prospects on the way! This grand FCA “adventure” has certainly been a family affair.
