Dale Otte

FCA Area Rep

I was born and raised in West Des Moines, Iowa to Dorman and Kathleen Otte where I grew up with two older brothers and participated in basketball, soccer, and FCA at Valley High School. We were raised in a Christian home knowing that Jesus Christ was our Lord and Savior.

I attended the University of Northern Iowa studying business at first then quickly realized that I should join the teaching and coaching profession as my passion was for helping and mentoring kids and coaching sports. I also participated on the UNI men’s soccer club team.

Upon graduation from UNI, I worked as a teacher and assistant soccer coach in Norwalk for one year then had the opportunity to work in my hometown at Valley High School for six years, coaching in basketball and soccer. In 2007, I moved into a leadership role as Athletic Director at Saydel High School in Des Moines. This led to a nine-year career at Pella High School, where I was fortunate to serve as AD behind the dedication and talent of some amazing coaches and students.

After 13 years in administration, it was time for a change of pace. I was ready for something with a bigger picture of developing students and adults but I wasn’t quite sure, so I took a leap of faith. While discerning that call, the pandemic served as an opportunity to get reacquainted with students as a teacher at Southeast Polk High School for two years. My wife Anne has loyally served as an Art Teacher and track coach there and I was able to work with the boys' basketball program as a volunteer coach.

I became an FCA Rep in fall of 2022 after accepting a call from the South-Central Iowa FCA Director and retired teacher/coach whom I worked with during my tenure at Pella. It was an opportunity to work with coaches and athletes again, this time for a greater purpose – to spread the gospel using a platform I’m very familiar with. I felt it was the right opportunity, one that was envisioned just over two years ago and finally came to fruition.

Anne and I were married in 2007 and we have three children; two daughters and a son who are in elementary and secondary school. As a family we are actively involved with youth sports including soccer, basketball, track and field, and baseball, attending games and coaching their teams.
